In a Very Small Way

I am participating in the Taiwan International Quilt Exhibition...with my piece 'Circle Play', which is part of the SAQA "This is a Quilt!" 2011 Trunk Show there.  However, my wonderful Canadian colleague, Mary Pal, will be writ large at the Exhibition, as she is teaching her signature cheesecloth process in Taiwan City -- not one workshop, but two!

SAQA members Sue Dennis, Pat Gould and Misik Kim will also be teaching.

What a wonderful way to share what SAQA is and does for its members around the globe!

I Could be in Trouble

Sometime last week, my SAQA colleague, Mary Pal, invited me to look at a new blog on the block, about a newly-formed collective of artists, posting about what they're up to.  The blog is entitled "Viewpoints 9", inspired (as I understand it) by Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences -- nine, that is -- which, FYI, they've listed in this first post.

At the end of the post is a link to a site which provides a questionnaire so you too can discover your degree of aptitude in eight areas (for some odd reason, one area -- existential/spiritual -- isn't included).  I score highly in six of the eight.  With respect to the seventh -- Bodily/Kinesthetic -- I scored at 51/100.  With respect to the eighth (and this is the kicker) -- Visual -- I scored 19.  That's it.  That's all. 

 If this test has any validity, what am I doing trying to make art?

A bit of Friday Fun...and some innovative ideas:

 On Facebook today, my friend and SAQA colleague, Mary Pal, shared this terrific   link: 25 clever ideas to make life easier. I was aware of some of them...but there are many of which I was unaware, and they're terrific!

 In the kitchen, in the linen storage cupboard, in the garden...I might just print out the entire article and keep it for reference!

 This is the best one, though -- finally instructions on how to fold those !!@@*** fitted sheets!  :-)

Memories of Gombe - Mary Pal

Mary Pal, of Ottawa, Ontario, has had her quilt, "Memories of Gombe", accepted in the forthcoming exhibit, Art Quilt Elements 2012, beginning March 30, 2012 and running through May 13. at the Wayne Art Centre in Pennsylvania. The competition included over 270 applicants, and the three jurors had to view over 660 images from 42 US states and 11 countries!

I continue to marvel at her distinct use of fabric and thread painting to create beautiful and evocative portraits.  Bravo, Mary Pal!
